Woollen Coffin - Cremation Statistics
We have been delighted by the uptake of the Natural Legacy by Hainsworth woollen coffin range since its launch at the National Funeral Exhibition in June. Its popularity has led to questions about its suitability for all the different types of cremation equipment currently used. We have consulted widely with crematoriums and also with equipment manufacturers and are very pleased to offer this fact sheet which gives comprehensive details about the coffins suitability for all crematoriums.
Cremation Facts
- Wool will not ignite until it reaches a temperature of 570-600°C (wood coffins will ignite with an open flame between 530-930°C).
- Due to the natural properties of all the materials used in the production of the woollen coffin, emission levels are low.
- Wooden slats are securely attached to the base of the coffin. The wooden slats are one inch deep and give rigidity and lift to the base of the coffins. The wide width of the slats ensures that the base is well balanced so that the coffin will move smoothly across any surface.
- Reinforced cardboard end panels fully encircle both ends of the coffin to give a strong and rigid end to the head and foot.
- This ensures the woollen coffin is suitable for all types of hand and automatic charging.
- The coffin has been independently tested by Lloyds British Testing House to a weight bearing of 42 stone.
